Have you noticed the never ending stream of negative stories in mainstream media? In a generation where authentic relationships are more important than ever, we seem to be finding less unity and more division. Does your heart break over this? Our children’s ministry program has always carried a heavy heart for kids in hard places. Over the years, money and resources have been raised for local and global needs during the “missions” portion of our summer Kids Bible Kamp (KBK). This year, we partnered with an incredible organization making a huge difference in an East St. Louis community. The Christian Activity Center (CAC) is a place where children immersed in poverty can find hope and resources to help them succeed physically, academically, and spiritually.
The children attending KBK were encouraged to bring school supplies, socks, underwear, and money to make a difference for the students at the CAC. The response was heartfelt and overwhelming. Children donated 315 notebooks, 180 packages of socks, 118 packages of underwear, and brought in $1,638.65!
Since we know that relationships are built when we spend time together, an additional opportunity was extended to our KBK families this year. On August 25, several individuals and families from Metro hosted a block party at the CAC. Children enjoyed sno cones, hot dogs, coloring stations, face painting, and inflatables. Friendships were formed and some of our volunteers have decided to serve in Adventureland as well as at the CAC. Check out the Christian Activity Center for more information or to volunteer.
