Metro Small Group Catalog

Fall 2017

Begins the week of August 21-25

Welcome to Winter/Spring Small Groups! Small Groups offer a safe environment for spiritual seekers and growing Christ-followers to experience spiritual growth, relational support, and lasting life change! There is a large varity of topic options, as well as a wide range of locations and times to best fit your interestes and schedule. Small Groups meet in homes and restaurants. These casual environments make Small Groups a great place to make friends. Please take some time and review all of the choices and then sign-up for the group that's best for you.

A few things to keep in mind...

  1. What can you expect...

Small group studies are discussion-oriented, rather than lecture driven, with a life-application focus. No Bible knowledge is necessary. Our groups are desgined to be a safe place for spiritual seekers. You can ask questions, share your opinions and experiences, or just listen as others share. No one will call on you. All particiapation is voluntary.
  2. Resouces can be purchased at:

Metro Recouce Center - before and after weekend services.
  3. Child Care is available at several of our Small Groups:

Please see the column marked "CC" for options.
  4. Types of Groups:

  1. Map of the general location of each Small Group is at the bottom of the page.

After you have signed up, your leader will contact you with the specific address.
  2. Homework expectations:

Some studies have no homework expectations while others require daily reading, etc. These expectations are listed next to the study topic. The homework requirements help participants get the most out of that topic of study. Please keep these requirements in mind when choosing a group.

    Homework Requirement:
    None - None
Light - Approximately 30 minutes per week.
    Moderate - Approximately 10-15 minutes a day
    Intense - Approximately 15-30 minutes a day

Do you ever wonder why you do some of the dumb, ignorant things you do? Sometimes we're bewildered and perplexed by some of our words and actions. A lot of times we fall into the easy out of blaming others, or making excuses, rationalizing, justifying what we've done. It's like there are these internal monsters wreaking havoc on our lives. There are some things deep in the mysterious depths of each of our hearts that sabotage our life. It's like we've been infected with something. But all too often we deal with surface stuff instead of root issues. How do we keep the next time from being like the last time? There is a battle within that spills out and affects us relationally, emotionally, professionally, and financially. And we don't know how to stop or change. How do we keep the next time from being like the last time? What's the problem beneath the problem?

Lies Women Believe: And the Truth that Sets Them Free

$10

Women only

Homework: Moderate

As women, we are a lot like Eve. We experience defeats and failures, trouble and turmoil. We struggle with a selfish heart, a shrewd spirit, anger, and bitterness. We ache to do things over, to have lives of harmony and peace. But many of us live under a cloud of personal guilt and condemnation. We are in bondage to our past. We are gripped by fear of rejection and a longing for approval. We are emotional prisoners because we have been brainwashed by the deception of the evil one. The lies we believe are at the root of most of our struggles. But there's hope! Embracing God's truth can deliver us from bondage and set us free to walk in His grace, forgiveness, and abundant life!

As believers we have a gift that the world desperately needs and wants. We have the joy of knowing our Heavenly Father and knowing how much He loves us. We also have the joy of knowing that Christ died for our sins and because He conquered death, we will too and spend forever in heaven after we leave this earth. Unfortunately, that joy isn't always communicated. If we don't connect this joy to our friends, loved ones, neighbors and strangers, what reason do they have in taking an interest in Jesus? Why would they want to be a part of the amazing church community God has given if they can't see the amazing joy that is God given? The fact that we are all sinners or that something is missing in our lives isn't always what draws a person to church or a faith community. Often times, it's the joy we believers experience and express because of our faith in Christ that attracts the disconnected. This joy is contagious because it is not of this world - it is something everyone truly wants. If we are to reach the disconnected, we must be "contagious".

A Different Kind of Happiness

$12

Mixed - Open to men and women

Homework: Moderate

Much of the dissatisfaction we experience in life is rooted in our misunderstanding of happiness. We anchor our hope in a secondary type of happiness that has no capacity to fulfill our expectations. When we let circumstances that we cannot control sabotage our happiness, we allow our emotions to distort our thinking, which in turn, fuels inappropriate behavior in an effort to cope with the disappointments we face. A dependence on secondary happiness always sets us up for failure. On the other hand, there is a higher happiness that most of us are not even aware of. It's a kind of happiness that survives both the most damaging relational pain caused by another and the most discouraging and devastating of circumstances. This higher level happiness is within our reach and fully able to exceed our expectations, providing the rich and rewarding happiness that God longs for His followers to experience.
